Alison is the fourth member of her family to run the high street shop in Melbourn. The suitably
named salon – Third Generation – is a far cry from the shop’s former guises as a fishing tackle
shop, fish and chip shop and hardware store.
Alison’s grandfather Eric Ilett was the first family member in the 1960’s to buy the property in the
High Street and he set up shop selling fish, chips and groceries.
Since then, it has been owned by her father Brian Whybrow, who ran it as a fishing tackle shop,
and her uncle, Stuart Ilett , as a hardware store.
